Dear IPS members,
The IPS Section is now welcoming nominations for the Distinguished Scholar Award & Panel for the 2027 annual convention in Atlanta.
The IPS Distinguished Scholar Award is given for a longstanding contribution to international political sociology.
Ideal nominees will have made significant advances in developing and popularizing international political sociology and transcend areas of specialization within international studies. They will have used IPS outside academia, preferably in realms of activism and social engagement. They will also have superlative records of service and mentorship within the wider international studies community.
The Distinguished Scholar in International Political Sociology Award is judged according to four criteria: (i) Contribution and significance, (ii) Activism and social responsibility, (iii) Engagement and service, and (iv) Interdisciplinarity.
Nominees should be (or should be willing to become) members of the International Studies Association.
The winner will be honoured by a plaque presented at the IPS Section Distinguished Scholar Award Roundtable at ISA Atlanta 2026.
Nominations must be accompanied by a CV as well as a supporting letter of no more than one page.
All materials must be emailed to the section chair Renata de Figueiredo Summa (r.de.figue...@rug.nl) by June 2nd, 2026, with subject line “IPS Distinguished Scholar Nomination".
We look forward to your nominations!
The IPS Section Committee
