Dear Irvington Families-

The PTA meeting scheduled for this evening will be postponed until June 8th. We stand in solidarity with our Black students and families who may be experiencing trauma and emotional exhaustion at this time. We send love to our neighboring communities, and to the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery. These families have children who will forever be impacted by the traumatic effects of racism. Let us not forget this as we endeavor to raise our children. Here's a resource for having conversations about race with your kids.

We have two proposals on the floor, attached here. If you have questions, reach
out to the board.

As a community that becomes less and less diverse every school year, it is vital that we maintain our deeply held belief in PTA that we speak on behalf of all children with one voice. Sometimes, those children are at neighboring schools.

This challenge requires that we get close to one another, even if only at our own school, and build the kind of relationships that allow you to drop your fears and speak directly, with authenticity and care, not to discern who is on the right or wrong side of any issue, but so we can find common solutions to supporting teachers in their efforts to make our public education system accessible for all kids regardless of race, physical ability, gender or neurodiversity.

Thank you for continuing to show up, especially when it feels uncomfortable for you.  Don't forget to check in with your neighbors this week:)

With gratitude,
Your PTA Board
