Hello Irvington Families-
A gigantic thank you goes out to parent volunteers, Talietha Mathis and Eloina Franco, paraeducator, Rosa Barajas, and Mr. Lofquist for doing a beautiful job on the Hispanic Heritage assembly on October 18th. The kids were treated to a presentation from Dr. Kenya Marquez and Ballet Papalotl, who brought many traditional Latin American dances and the history behind them to life. It was deeply moving and meaningful for many of our students and families to have their cultures celebrated and honored. Each student in this building should feel engaged, valued and we must keep this at the forefront of our work in PTA.
Our next PTA meeting is this Monday, November 4th. Dinner is at 6, meeting begins at 6:30. Childcare is provided. Please bring your kiddos, as we will be playing games at 7:30!
On the agenda is the finalization of our amended standing rules. (see attached amended standing rules)
Katie Degraw, and Elly Kendig from I AM, and our new reading specialist, Gretchen Ganey, will be giving a quick presentation on reading and how we as parents and guardians can support our children's reading and phonemic awareness at home. At 7:30, they will lead us in some fun activities with kids, so please bring yours!
The Maker's Fair and Scholastic Book Fair are quickly approaching. Maker's Fair is Saturday, November 16th from 9am-4pm. Scholastic Book Fair is Nov 21-22 and 25-26 during conferences. Book fair will be located in the library. Please contact the following coordinators if you are interested in supporting these invaluable fundraising efforts-
OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books) is underway. Students in grades 3-5 create teams, then read a curated list of age appropriate books. In the new year, they will participate in trivia 'battles' around the content of these books. Top teams move onto to city-wide battles. The deadline to submit teams is November 7th. Please contact Katie Horne
katie...@gmail.com for more information. This is a really great way to get your kids engaged in reading.
Thanks everyone, for continuing to support our kids, and school staff in all the ways that you do. Education in America today requires that we all participate and support the learning for our kids. Teachers need us as much as we need the teachers. We CAN and will help our kids get the education they all so rightly deserve.
See you all on Monday!
