Hello Irvington families - I hope this message finds you all safe, healthy, and as emotionally, mentally, and spiritually/cosmically well as you can be through this surreal and seemingly endless "storm" we are all living through right now. When it's not scary
and anxiety producing, there are some sweet, quiet moments to take advantage of in this strange new world of ours. I hope you are all finding some of those moments.
I know everyone is both eager to find ways to keep our kids actively engaged and simultaneously overwhelmed by all of the new responsibilities and options - so I don't want to burden anyone with more resources, but if an online coding class is up your kids's
alley, then check out the email below from Riley Statham, the coordinator from Code to the Future, Irvington's most recent after school coding program. They are taking their normal after school programming online.
I sincerely hope we are able to confidently and safely be together physically as a community again next year, but in the meantime, my gratitude goes out to all of the hard working teachers and school administrators and staff who are adapting every day to help
our kids stay engaged and connected from home.
Stay well everyone!
Briggy Thomas
Irvington After School Activities Volunteer Coordinator
Hi Briggy,
I hope you and your family are safe during this difficult time. With schools closing for the foreseeable future, we at Code To The Future have decided to tailor our curriculum to meet the needs of families and students across the country by moving our
classes online!
Using Google Meet or Zoom (school or district's preference), and leveraging the power of
Scratch.mit.edu, we're easily able to transition our differentiated computer science programs online so students can continue their learning from the safety of their homes. This is also a great opportunity for parents looking
for positive ways to keep their children busy during the stay at home order.
Our classes are still scheduled during after school hours to avoid interfering with other forms of online learning, and still no cost to schools. We are only asking for help with getting the word out to 2nd-5th grade families, perhaps in the form of a
newsletter or mass email. Do you think Irvington families would be interested in this opportunity?
I look forward to hearing from you. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks,
Riley

Code To The Future
Hi Riley - nice to hear from you :) As I think you know, we do our after school programming by quarter - so we wouldn’t start a new class until after spring break - probably the 2nd week in April. I’m happy to include you in the spring planning.
I’ll be starting that here soon.
Be in touch when that process starts!!

Hi Briggy,
Code To The Future is back! After taking time off this Fall/Winter to overhaul our curriculum and programs, CTTF is back and ready to continue inspiring students in the greater Portland area to become future leaders in STEM related fields.
I'm personally working with CTTF again in a consultative role, and no longer managing the programs. My main focus is professional development for instructors and scheduling of programs & camps.
Would you be open to having our classes in your school again? If so, would starting the week of February 24th be okay with you?
Thanks,
