Community Involvement & Public Affairs
December 15, 2009
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Parents of PPS Talented and Gifted Students,
Welcome to the inaugural e-mail from the newly created PPS listserv
for parents of talented and gifted (TAG) students throughout Portland
Public Schools.
In the months ahead, we hope to use this form of communication
periodically to share information with you about research, data and
special events pertaining to the PPS Talented & Gifted Program.
As many of you are aware, Portland Public Schools has been seeking
parental input relating to High School System design through a series
of community meetings addressing the definition of a core curriculum
within the community comprehensive high school model. In response to
these community meetings, a representative group of PPS parents
representing the Talented & Gifted Program has requested a meeting
with district officials to respond to the proposed core curriculum
model. This one-hour meeting will take place this Friday, December 18,
from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Blanchard Education Service District
(BESC) Office at 501 N. Dixon (97227) in the Wy'East Conference Room
(L-1 level).
We know that not all parents/guardians representing talented and
gifted students in PPS will be able to attend Friday morning's
presentation. However, there will be more opportunities in the coming
months, both at public meetings and through advisory councils.
In the months ahead, Portland Public Schools will work with a core
group of parents from advisory councils representing Talented & Gifted
Education, Special Education and English as a Second Language to
determine future opportunities for ongoing dialogue relating to High
School System design.
