TAG Games Family Summary
January 20, 2010
Dear Families,
Today was the third TAG Games meeting. We warmed up with a scrambled word activity and brain teaser, then had a short discussion about the different kinds of games, what equipment we need to play games, and why rules are important. Next month, we will refresh some of these ideas and begin designing our own board games. After the lesson, we had a snack and played games. We finished out the day with a group game of Clue. It was challenging, but by the end, everyone pretty much had the hang of it.
Some ways you can continue the fun at home:
- Play a game as a family. Talk about the game. Notice the equipment that is required. If you lost the pieces, what could you use instead? Why do you think the game maker made the rules they did?
- Watch a game show and play along at home. Some suggestions Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? How did you do? What is different about board games and game shows? Does having a time limit affect the game play? Does it make it more challenging?
- Try a brain warm-up of your own at home. Start your day with a puzzle, such as Sudoku or Jumble, or with a trivia question. Do you have Trivial Pursuit or a similar game in the closet? Pull it out and try a card or two with breakfast! You could play a game of “Would you rather…?” on the way to school. You might ask something like, “Would you rather have spaghetti for hair or a pickle for a nose?”
Today was a lot of fun! I look forward to our next meeting on Wednesday, February 17, 2010.

PS> This puzzle really stumped everyone today. See if you can figure it out. Ask your child if they remember the answer. Good luck!
You have four matches lined up parallel on the table. Can you move ONLY ONE match to make two?
