Cultivating Growth Garden Dedication and Party Saturday, July 25 @ 2:00 pm
Come help dedicate the new community garden at the corner of Grace and Keeler. The former prayer garden, built over 25 years ago, is transitioning into a Serenity Garden with Planters that will provide herbs to the Irving Park Community Food Pantry.
This is another example of "Neighbors Helping Neighbors." It is Phase I of a multi-year project to expand the current supply of organic vegetables to the pantry, working in conjunction with Carlson Community Services' Three Brothers Garden. Seed money is being made available through ongoing support from the FDC Foundation that provides funding specific to providing healthy, fresh food options to pantry clients.
On July 25th, learn from specialists how to cook with herbs, grow organic produce, garden with a green mind and thumb! Donations will help with the renovation of the kitchen and fellowship hall at the church where the pantry currently distributes food weekly and helps clients take a more nutritious approach to cooking. Experts will be on hand to talk about the importance of helping people live healthier! The University of Illinois Extension Service has been a part of our local pantry educational programs since 1992. CRS Rice Bowl also provides important funding.
This will be a fun and educational Garden Party you won't want to miss!
If you would like to help build the new gardens, take a rotation on the watering schedule, do some weeding, donate supplies or funds, or help with the event on July 25, please contact Vicci Rodgers at viccir...@gmail.com or stop by the garden at the corner of Grace and Keeler for more information. Thanks to all who have been part of this project already!
Hope to see you there!
