All:
Mayor Farrah Khan has been our strongest "Badminton in Irvine" project supporter.
Everyone is invited to come to her farewell gathering this coming Thursday, 12-5-24 at 5.30-7.30 pm at Quail Hill Community Center.
I hope each of you can personally thank her for her support for the badminton community this past 3-years. You can also personally email her at
farra...@cityofirvine.org if you cannot make it to this event.
For the record:
1) Mayor Khan, along with then Vice-mayor Anthony Kuo agendized the addition of badminton courts in Irvine on 1-11-22's city council meeting.
2) Farrah together with the city manager Oliver Chi helped create 2 outdoor badminton courts at Court #4 at Los Olivos Community Park that opened to residents on 6-24-22 which later were converted to become dedicated badminton courts on 8-28-22.
3) The Mayor along with then Vice-mayor Anthony Kuo helped create the city indoor badminton open gym program at Irvine High School, which started on 8-29-22 and then pushed for more playing time for residents. The program which started with only 2-nights a week with only 1-hour hour of play time but now has expanded to 4/5 nights per week for up to 2.5 hours of play time each session. This badminton open gym program has garnered over 8000 registrations in year-2 of the program.
3) Farrah was also the person whom motion to amend the Bill Barker Gym to a 2-story gym and dedicate 1 entire floor to badminton during the city council meeting on 9-12-23.
4) She helped to create the city first youth badminton class which started on 4-14-24. This youth badminton class has since expanded from 40 students in the Spring to more than 100 students for the Fall and Winter sessions.
5) Mayor Khan was the only representative on the city council who pushed for a 18-dedicated badminton court design in the upcoming Red Hill Gym during the city council meeting on 8-13-24 after the city manager decided to shelf the Bill Barker Gym in favor of the Red Hill Gym.
faithfully,
