Portola High School Badminton Team Takes to the Court for Historic First Practice

IRVINE, CA – March 12, 2026 - The sounds of athletic competition were different at Portola High School this morning as the school’s newly formed Badminton Team held its very first official practice session. This event marks a historic milestone for the school’s athletic department and highlights the rapid growth of the sport in the region.

The session debuted professional-grade equipment donated by Badminton Irvine, including BWF-approved mobile net posts and nets designed for CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) competition. Badminton Irvine will also be procuring CIF-approved shuttlecocks for training and official play. This partnership removes financial barriers, allowing athletes to focus entirely on skill development and sportsmanship.

Badminton Irvine’s contribution underscores their deep commitment to youth sports development in the city. Their support is designed to empower local programs and foster a vibrant badminton community. "We are happy to support the Portola High Badminton Team in any way we can," said KN Chan, President of Badminton Irvine. "We are also committed to supporting every Irvine-based high school with any badminton equipment as needed, helping their clubs and teams grow and succeed."

With tournament-ready equipment now in place, the Portola Bulldogs are prepared to build a lasting legacy in the CIF circuit.
