When I was in the Navy, it seemed that I would always get "duty watch" on my birthday. So, I would "trade" with somebody who got duty watch on July 4th, and that sailor would pay me $20 or $30 for the "trade". So I'd get my birthday off, and some extra cash in the bargain. 😁
