About Publics:
Social entrepreneurs, be it aspiring, fledgling or established, often face funding-related challenges in their journey of growth. Given a complex funding ecosystem, how can these entrepreneurs effectively position themselves to impact investors? This discussion intends to provide a platform for entrepreneurs to interact with and understand the reasoning of investors, who are always considered to be on the other side of the table. This discussion will give social entrepreneurs and other actors in the sector an insight into the workings of impact investment, specifically:
· How prospective “fundees” approach impact investors
· What happens when a funding proposal/idea lands on their table
· How do they separate good proposals/ideas from the not-so-good ones?
· How to communicate an idea effectively to an impact investor
· Guidance through funding lifecycle
About the Speakers:
Vikram Raman – Unitus Capital
Vikram joined Unitus Capital in August 2011. He comes with a background of investing and auditing experience and last, worked with Acumen Fund for 5 years, leading efforts in building the India Health portfolio as well as in the Agriculture portfolio. He worked on deals through the transaction cycle on both pre-investment due diligence and deal structure as well as on post-investment relationship management. Vikram also earlier worked for 3 years with BDO (a large global audit and consulting firm) in its Muscat office where he worked across external audit, internal audit and financial consulting engagements. Vikram is a Chartered Accountant and holds a post graduation in management (equivalent to MBA) from the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, with a dual major in Analytical Finance and Strategy. He is an avid photographer and takes strong interest in spirituality and astronomy.
Snigdha Rao - Aavishkar
Snigdha is a Senior Investment Manager at Aavishkaar Venture Management. She manages early stage investments in healthcare, financial inclusion, renewable energy and other sectors. Prior to joining Aavishkaar, Snigdha led the BYST Growth Fund (BGF) - a pilot micro-equity initiative supported by the IFC (World Bank). BGF is the first VC fund in India to provide equity-like capital, mentoring and business development assistance to SMEs in conventional industries. While at BGF, Snigdha developed and executed a commercially sustainable investment, monitoring and value-addition model for SMEs. Prior to BGF, she was a management consultant with Accenture Business Consulting where she worked with clients in the automobile, engineering and construction sectors in areas of supply chain optimization and organization development. Snigdha is a management graduate from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) and an engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M).
