This album is a respectful nod to the past as well as a remark on the timelessness of great music. Rod Stewart has embraced the big band sound for quite a few years now and has released many successful albums of old standards that have clearly stood the test of time as they were all hit albums and propelled his live shows into another dimension.
What lifts this into an even higher stratosphere is the union with Jools Holland and his big band. The atmosphere and vibe from the polished performance of the band combined with the apparent joy and enthusiasm of Rod and Jools love for this music are the reasons why it's gone to number 1 in the album charts.
Great music never dies
Recommended.

When I think of the Norwegian band, A-Ha, I think of the 80's and 90's and that iconic classic song Take On Me with it's game changing video mixing reality with the world of girls romantic comics. So I wasn't expecting new work to be sounding as vibrant and beautiful as these songs on True North. What a great collection of songs! The singles True North and You Have What It Takes announces to the world that Morten Harket sounds as beautiful as ever with that delicate power that he has.
If you're a fan of their earlier albums you should give this a listen.
It's a journey worth taking. Just set your compass to true north.
Recommended.

The Lightning Seeds are one of the best bands to ever come out of Liverpool in the north of England. Along with bands like The Beatles, Ian Broudie of The Seeds is an expert in writing catchy pop tunes and lyrics with meaning while creating melodies that caress your ears and leave you humming the songs for hours after. A very rare talent but one that he makes look easy time after time after time.
There isn't a weak song on here and welcomes guests like the legend that is Alison Moyet on My Best Day.
You can never go wrong with a Lightning Seeds album.
Recommended.

First of all, if you don't own this album but you love summertime pop then you owe it to yourself to buy this right now. It's a little gem of earworm radio friendly pop tunes. The two extra tracks on this (US Edition) are nice to have for the collector and fans but they're not in the same league as the original track listing (in my opinion) but still, welcome extras.
This album will go down in history as one of the most underrated British classics in musical history.
I'm just thankful that I'm one of those lucky people who found it very early on.
Highly recommended.

I've been a fan of Ian Broudie & The Lightning Seeds since the beginning with his debut single, Pure and the first album, Cloudcuckooland. The quality of writing, performing, recording and producing has always been of the highest quality which isn't surprising considering that his earliest work was producing other iconic bands from Liverpool like Echo & The Bunnymen and The Coral.
Here we have a return to top form with a collection of pure feel good summer pop songs. Great for the car this summer. Or in the garden soaking up the rays.
Recommended summer time album from a Liverpudlian legend.

The one thing that always comes across clearly from any interviews with Noel Gallagher is his unfiltered opinion on things and most importantly, his passionate love of music. This is so refreshing. An iconic artist, who, like Bowie, doesn't want to keep churning out the music that his fans expect. Instead, he wants to surprise them and keep them growing musically as they travel this road with him. And all the richer we all are for it.
Persevere with this new offering and you'll be glad that you did.
With each listen you get taken deeper down the rabbit hole which is Noel's creative genius.

This is another joyous discovery from Songswaves new releases. I was looking through the releases and saw this album. I thought that it might be my kind of music because of the name of the band. Manchester (my part of the world) and Electric (my kind of music).
I pressed play hoping for another version of O.M.D. and found myself listening to songs that are just as catchy but totally original to this band. The more I listen, the more addicted I'm getting to these very catchy little pieces of electro pop.
I don't know much about the origins of the band but I can tell you that, based on this album, I'm a new fan.
Give them a listen if you enjoy electro pop.

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark have consistently released quality since they released their first creations back in the late 1970's. This is no exception. Each song is beautifully crafted and expertly produced by the band. Their initial influences of Kraftwerk aren't overtly obvious as the vibe on this new album leans more towards the catchy radio friendly pop that they've proved themselves masters of writing over and over again with timeless gems like Enola Gay and Joan of Arc.
This sits alongside the bands earlier albums and highlights a welcome return for the synth wizards from Liverpool.

I'd almost forgotten about The Eels until I stumbled upon their 2018 album titled The Deconstruction. I bought it and was blown away by what a great album it was. Song after song. No fillers. And I'm still playing it regularly. So, when I saw a new album by them I couldn't wait to buy it and play it.
The verdict? Another great collection of songs with that fantastic distinct vocal making each song shine. I never tire of hearing his voice.
Favourites are Anything For Boo, Who You Say You Are, Earth To Dora, Baby Let's Make It Real & Waking Up
A lovely album

This band are carrying the torch of punk rock and pulling the genre into the 21st century whilst retaining that raw edge that the punk from the 70's was famous for.
This band deserve more recognition and commercial success as their music is sounding as fresh as it did when it was first released.
There are so many cool tunes on here that it's a must have in everyone's collections.
If you only own one album by The Kills I would make it this one personally.
It's a great album.
Stand outs for me are Future Starts Slow, Satellite, DNA & The Last Goodbye
Recommended

Hooverphonic may have a changing array of lead singers but the one thing that is consistent is their ability to produce albums which are crammed full of pure quality songs that are always beautifully produced.
If you never invested in a Hooverphonic album I would recommend their entire back catalogue. It's late night soulful music for grown ups. A fusion of bands like Blondie and Morcheeba.
Stand out songs for me on this album are The Wrong Place, Belgium In The Rain, Circus, Full Moon Duel & the title track Hidden Stories (but they're all great songs)
Highly recommended

This is a collection of songs that were a big influence for Bruce Springsteen in his youth and a major source of pleasure for him to sing along to.
The title, Only The Strong Survive has multiple meanings referencing not only the great artists of those times. But also the strength of the songs to still be sounding so fresh all these years on.
For me, this collection of some of Bruce's favourites has done two things for me. It's reminded me about a few great songs that i'd forgotten about as i haven't heard them in a long time. More importantly though, it's introduced me to some fantastic songs that I really should have already known a long time ago.
What a cool album.
Every song is a winner.
Highly recommended.

I don't need to tell you how good this lady is. I don't need to tell you how loved her vocals and song writing are loved are around the world. I don't even need to tell you that this latest offering hasn't got a weak song on the entire album. The vocals are faultless. The production is what you'd expect from an Adele release. Each song is bursting with meaning and emotion. There are no surprises. No change in formula. Just more of what the fans have come to love and adore. Which is Adele writing songs that come straight from the heart and has this lady bearing her soul for everyone to see and hear and, of course, savour.
Well worth the wait and full of songs that you'll be enjoying for years to come.
Highly recommended.

When Nina Simone and Billie Holliday were releasing their first albums and introducing themselves to music fans around the world, I imagine it felt like this album makes me feel today. The goosebumps. The disbelief that this singer is as young as she is because the soulful atmosphere that is drifting out of the speakers is that of an old soul. A lady that has lived a number of lifetimes because her lyrics and sensitivity can only be coming from an old soul that has felt the heartaches and joys of a generation of women. But no. She's a child. A young lady. A soul goddess. A legend in the making. If you love blues or soul or jazz?... then this is a must have for your collection.
Highly recommended.

Ultravox were a class act from the moment they formed. Great songs with a smooth Scottish vocalist and fantastic production values had the youth of the time queuing up to buy their singles and see them live at gigs. This "Best of" album focuses on the songs that propelled them to the highest levels of fame and they still sound fresh and as catchy as they always were. My only gripe is that it doesn't have all the hits that Midge Ure had like "Dear God" or "Cold Cold Heart" but the biggest songs are all here beautifully produced and sounding lush and rich and flowing. I bet most people have forgotten how many great hits this awesome band had. Well, sit back and enjoy this lesson in hit making.
Fantastic collection of songs
Highly recommended.

For all you Undertones fans this has to be the album that you pick to put on in the car or on a Saturday night with friends. It has them all including the legendary b-sides like "Mars Bars" that had us all singing along in the schoolyard as we grew up. The voice of Feargal Sharkey is unmistakable and unique in it's Irishness. The songs still have an energy and raw vibe that get's you up out of your seat and pogo-ing all over your living room (watch the lampshade!)
Standouts for me are "Teenage Kicks" (obviously), "Here Comes The Summer", "Jimmy Jimmy" (naturally), "Mars Bars" & "My Perfect Cousin"
Great trip down memory lane and highly recommended to all the punks out there.
