I've set up this group to host discussions on Ironclad: Generals of
Steam, which is a steampunk-themed strategy game.

You can download and play the game for free at http://www.mikera.net/ironclad/

Once you've played the game, I'd love to hear what you think! Please
leave your comments as a message in this forum.

The game is currently under active development, so any suggestions to
improve the game are very welcome.

I was linked here by a clojure site claiming that this is written in clojure. Is it true?

Absolutely true!

It uses some Java libraries to provide graphics, sound and a few utility functions but the game itself is pure Clojure.

All the source is here:

That's really awesome man! I've been thinking about writing a game in clojure. How fitting was it overall? Do you feel that using clojure has helped or hindered the game?

It was interesting: figuring out to write a game with immutable state was a fun challenge. quite hard in fact, although rewarding when it worked....

I have a quite comprehensive review of writing a different game (Alchemy, a 7 day roguelike) in Clojure which you may find interesting on my Creative Clojure blog:

That's really cool! Thanks for referencing me to that. The game I want to make is actually a survival rougelike based in an infinite world with creative building elements like minecraft or dwarf fortress. I'm definitely going to check out the code. :)

I actually separated a lot of the engine code into a separate library: it is probably quite usable for building a completely new roguelike
