Hi:
I have an iRODS 3.2 server that has been running for over a year. Just
rebooted and can use commands like "icd", "ils", etc. but when I use
"ireg", the command hangs and comes back with a connection time out.
Note that this is on a Amazon EC2 server and the host name has changed
(my .irods/.irodsEnv file is using the public domain name so that's not
an issue). I did also use_locahost when deploying. Server is configured
with MySql. Any suggestion?
thanks

Hello,

You might check to see if iput also fails.  Does the resource definition, the resc_net field, (as displayed by 'iadmin lr Name') somehow have the old host name?

Wayne:

Good pick, was:
resc_net: ip-10-113-45-79.ec2.internal
Changed to the public DNS entry which seem to help the connection.

But now I'm getting a SYS_EXCEED_CONNECT_CNT (see below)
Any thoughts?

Note that after I stop/start the server, an irodsctl status returns

But right after the an iput / ireg that fails, I see

Pascal,

The SYS_EXCEED_CONNECT_CNT error can be caused by a server thinking that its host name is a remote host.  If that's the problem, the fix would be to edit the server/config/irodsHost file to add a line with: localhost and the DNS name being used. The irodsHost file has some comments that describe this a bit more.

Wayne:
That did the trick, very much appreciated.
Have a great week-end.
best
