Hello,

Could you please suggest me, which is the best Web GUI (open source) to configure, in order to use it as iRODS client? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Rose

Hi Rose,

The web GUI maintained by the Consortium for managing user data and metadata is Metalnx: https://github.com/irods-contrib/metalnx-web

There is also a web GUI for administration of an iRODS zone called the Zone Management Tool: https://github.com/irods/irods_client_zone_management_tool

I defer to community members for recommending other web GUIs.

Hope that helps.

Alan

Hello,

Is Metalnx suitable for administrator to manage an irods system (irods server), or is for regular users to manage their data (upload, download, add metadata, etc.)?
If it's suitable for regular users, is it also suitable for uploading large datasets?
If it's not suitable for large datasets, how many GB or MB could it handle/upload without issue?

Regards,
Jana

Hi Jana,

Is Metalnx suitable for administrator to manage an irods system (irods server), or is for regular users to manage their data (upload, download, add metadata, etc.)?

Metalnx supports some administrative operations, so yes, it can be used to manage a server to some degree.

Our most recent efforts have been aimed at making Metalnx a tool for non-admin users. To learn more about that, see https://youtu.be/w-ld02EAEx4?si=-ainO4bvGmyUv5z3.

If it's suitable for regular users, is it also suitable for uploading large datasets?

Yes. Many users use it to transfer large files.

If it's not suitable for large datasets, how many GB or MB could it handle/upload without issue?

There are no limitations on upload size as far as I know. There's one config option which controls the max download size though.
The only thing that matters is whether the upload/download speeds are satisfactory. And that will depend on your Metalnx configuration and your network.
