Hello,

I had irods2.3 installed and working, then I set in
server/api/src/rsAuthResponse.c

#define requireServerAuth 1

ran make from the /iRODS directory level.

Then I added

LocalZoneSID Name1
RemoteZoneSID Name2

in server/config/server.config.

The I did
>./irodsctl start
Starting database server...
starting iRODS server...

>ils
ERROR: _rcConnect: connectToRhost error, server on <hostname> is probably
down status = -38000 SYS_AGENT_INIT_ERR.

I tried to reverse what I did by setting

#define requireServerAuth back to 0

and by deleting the 2 lines in server.config. I also stopped the server
and ran make again. The error persists, though.

Thanks,
Elena

Hello,

If the irods servers are running, the 'irodsctl start' command will leave them running as is.  To be sure to stop and restart the servers, use 'irodsctl irestart'  (or stop and start).  That might explain why changing the setting back didn't work.

I'm not sure what the other issue may be.  Is there anything relevant in the server logs?  You might try setting the LocalZoneSID and RemoteZoneSID in the config file while leaving the define requireServerAuth set to 0 and checking the logs.

No difference.

I attach the log file.

Elena,

When your iRODS server is starting up, it is failing to connect to Postgres, getting the error "[unixODBC]FATAL:  the database system is shutting down".  This probably means that your Postgres system is 'stuck' in an odd state, where it can't shutdown.  You might try shutting down irods, making sure all the irods servers/agents are gone, and then shutting down postgres and making sure all of the postgres processes exit.

For a test instance, it's OK to email your full log like that, but there are some passwords in these so you'll want to be careful with it.   For a production system you'll want to remove those passwords before emailing a server log.
