iRobot controlling from pc programmatically

Hi,

Am newbie to iRobot create , i know i can use command module to load my hex program to run it in iRobot command module to control it, but can i control iRobot create with out using command module ? i mean by running a program in pc which is connected with iRobot through USB cable just like controlling the iRobot using Realterm terminal in pc but by program. If it is possible , can u please suggest me as way.
