to Irma Kirkendall
Karen's mom - Irma - left for a better place on April 1, 2008 at 3PM.
Irma had been having a tough go of it since January 21, 2008 when she
fell at home and fractured her skull. She was air evacuated to St
Josephs Hospital in Phoenix where she had brain surgery to alleviate
pressure on her brain. She spent two weeks in the hospital and two
more weeks in rehab.
Irma moved into the Garnet, an assisted living place here in Casa
Grande on February 19, 2008. She was adjusting well and making new
friends. On March 15, 2008 she fell again and injured the other side
of her brain. She was again air evacuated to Banner Good Samaritan in
Phoenix. She didn't regain consciousness and we had her transferred
to Hospice of the Valley Coronado House in Phoenix.
After 4 days, Irma woke up! The family and friends spent a wonderful
Easter Sunday with her. Two days later she again lapsed into
unconsciousness and after 7 days, she joined Kirk. We're convinced
Kirk had his guitar and her ukulele all tuned up for the reunion.
Irma will be cremated and some of her ashes spread on the water in
front of her cabin on Harstine Island and the remainder buried next to
Kirk in the Island cemetery. We will have a small grave site service
for Irma sometime this summer.
In remembrance of Irma, we would like you to consider donating to
Hospice of the Valley , a truly caring and compassionate organization.
As all of you, we will miss her greatly,
- Doug & Karen
