Hi,

I am still working on connecting a Cohu camera to Iris.  Does anyone know what the URI string should look like?  Specifically if it is a tcp connection and what port.

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Robert.  Is this a network-enabled Cohu camera, or a serial-controlled one that you are using with a terminal server?

Do you have a model # for the camera?

Generally speaking, though, the URI string should be simply IP:port or host:port.  E.g.,

Hi Travis,

Thanks for your help.

It is a network enabled camera.  The model is a cohu 3960hd.  I am able to control it using its browser/activeX controller.  I know the IP it is on.  I don't know the port to connect to.  I have tried the various open ports that I have found on the device - 80, 111, 554 but none have worked.  If it is able to connect it returns "STORE command not supported"

Thanks,
Bob

Bob,

Ah, thanks for the info.  The 3960HD is one of the newer Helios-line cameras.  I believe it speaks the newer Cohu T protocol, whereas the existing IRIS Cohu driver speaks the i-series protocol.  It's possible that the 3960HD has i-series support, but I cannot say for sure since I've never had a chance to work with one.  I've just put in a tech support question regarding this with Cohu, and we'll see what they say about it.

Regarding the port #, I've skimmed the available documents on the 3960HD and I cannot seem to find any mention of this.  You may want to look through the camera's web interface config menus to see if you can find anything.

If you have a support contact with Cohu, you might want to ask them if it's possible to control the 3960HD over the network using the i-series protocol.

Anyway, I'll let you know if I hear back from Cohu, or if I find any more information on this!  I suspect that agencies using IRIS will, sooner or later, need support for the Cohu T protocol, so there's always the possibility that it will be added to IRIS at some point...

Hi Travis,

I have put in a request with Cohu.  Based on the SDK documentation, the older protocol might still be available on port 1234.  I am waiting for confirmation or if anything needs to be done to activate it.

I am still struggling with the video feed.  I have the video servlet installed, it is unclear to me what the configuration settings should be to pull in video from the Cohu.  Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Robert!  Interesting -- please keep me posted on the port 1234 issue.

I never heard back from Cohu regarding my support request (which I submitted through their website).  Perhaps I submitted it wrong.

Anyway, I did speak to at least one user who is currently controlling HD/Helios cameras using the legacy i-series protocol, but they are using a Cohu LCU unit with their cameras.  My guess is that the LCU is configured to translate the i-series protocol into the Cohu T protocol.  You're using your 3960HD directly (i.e., without an LCU), correct?

Regarding your video feed, are you using an analog-digital encoder (does the 3960HD even have an analog output?), or are you hoping to stream digital video directly from the 3960HD?  If the latter, then it might be a bit of a problem, as IRIS doesn't currently support the Cohu video request protocol (as vaguely alluded to in my April 23rd replies to your previous post).  Adding support for this could be probably be done fairly easily, and I might even be interested in writing it myself, but it would need to wait until my schedule frees up a bit in July/August.

Anyway, let me know a bit more about your setup and I can give a more definitive reponse.

Sorry to hear that you're hitting so many roadblocks getting things up and running, but I admire your persistence!  Bootstrapping IRIS to work in a new agency can involve a lot of effort.  I know that getting it up and running in California was certainly no exception.  However, interest in IRIS does seem to be ramping up recently, with a small handful of new agencies currently running it in pilot programs or planning to do so.  So, hopefully more groups will start to use it and ultimately contribute code to the project to support a more diverse selection of hardware/protocols/functionality.
