Last Thursday's guest lecture with Azrini Wahidin was a great
introduction into the ICRN guest lecture series that we hope to
implement over the next 12 months. Thank you all for attending, and
welcome to any new members who have joined the group since then.
Please find below a summary of the minutes from the ICRN meeting that
was held following Azrini's lecture. As always, all comments on and
contributions to the attached are greatly appreciated.
Looking forward to catching up with you all at our next gathering in
June at the North/South Criminology Conference in Belfast (further
details to follow)
Best Regards,
Maria Lahiff

Irish Criminology Research Network Meeting Thursday 18th February
2010:
1. The purpose of the ICRN was discussed and it was agreed that
information, support and making connections with other researchers are
the primary objectives of the group. It was also agreed that meetings
should take place approximately every 3 months and that guest speakers
should be a pivotal aspect of those meetings. In addition it was
suggested that social drinks should be organised after each meeting.
2. A pre-submission symposium was offered as an option at some of the
ICRN gatherings. If any members are close to submitting their thesis
please let Nicola Carr or Maria Lahiff know and we will try to
organise for a mini "viva-style" presentation of your work. This may
also be appealing for other members who are not yet submitting but who
may want to brush up on their presentation skills. It was suggested
that the first week in September may be a good time to do this. So get
those power point slides ready!
3. It is hoped that a special pre-conference or mid-conference meeting
of the ICRN will be organised to coincide with the North/South
Criminology Conference in Belfast in June. The organisers of the
conference will be contacted to see if it will be possible to include
a flyer into the delegate packs to invite potential members to attend
this meeting.
4. Any person or group of people who have met through the network and
who are interested in collaborating on a joint presentation/conference
paper at any up and coming conferences are encouraged to do so. Please
mention the network and invite your audience to look up the site in
case they are interested in joining themselves.
5. Finally, Jess and Eoin will look into the possibility of opening
out the ICRN site to a wider audience.
All additions and discussions on any of the points made above are most
welcome. If there is anything that has been left out please feel free
to add.
All the best
Maria
