This paper presents an IRCHSS funded Participative Action Research
project (PAR) that utilized a creative arts methodology (puppetry,
role-play/drama/film-making) to gather a unique view of the youth
justice system from girls’ perspectives. Creative arts workshops were
held with 9 female participants, accessed through the Youth Advocate
Programme, over three months followed by a five month ‘social action’
phase that resulted in the production of a DVD. This DVD has been used
as a springboard for a continuing dialogue with the Garda Síochána.
This paper will particularly focus on the process of analysing the
rich, layered data stemming from PAR methods.
