INCIDENT @ IRENE RADIO FLYERS

Unfortunately, this morning @ +/- 11H00, Ernst Meissner, from our club, was flying his Raptor 50 Titaan and when he landed, 2 young persons started pushing him around. When he didn’t move fast enough, one stabbed him in his shoulder-blade (luckily against the bone), tied him up in the men’s toilet. They took his heli, radio, cell phone, camera and car keys, but left the car. I think the reason they left the car is that there no other way out for cars other than through security check points.
He managed to free himself, and had to walk for +/- 1 km to get help. They then took him to hospital where he got stitched up and was discharged. He doing fine under the circumstances.

This truly is a sad state of affairs; I was at the field at 16h00 flying alone yesterday – none the wiser.
Ernst glad to hear you are OK! I am going to Potch for the weekend and will not be able to attend the meeting but will be available to help with any work that needs to be done to make the club safer.

Unfortunately we had another similar occurence at the club today.
There were +/- 6 members enjoying themselves at the club this afternoon (2-ish). At some stage 4 of them left, but Jaco and Torsten Scheidt stayed a little longer. They were sitting on the clubhouse veranda, when all of a sudden +/- 5 men came up to from behind the clubhouse. Jaco was sprayed with pepper spray in the face, but Torsten tried to run away. They caught up with him within 10 meters, stabbed him in the back which resulted in a punctured lung. They were the tied up, robbed of cell phones, wallets and Torstens yellow 40 size trainer and Graupner radio. They took Jaco’s car keys, but luckily left Torsten’s car keys on the board and ran away.
Torsten and Jaco managed to free themselves. They took Torsten’s car keys and went to Unitas Hospital. Torsten will be kept in hospital for a short while as there are draining pipes in his lungs, but I don’t think life threatening. Carl Brandt and myself visited him in hospital, and he looks okay.
I will be meeting with Lyttelton Station Commander, and the person from ARC responsible for safety and security, early this week. I’ve also discussed the matter with our previous chairman, Peter Morey, and asked him if we could use his studio facilities for an emergency club meeting.
We made a temporary arrangement for Thursday night, but will confirm with him tomorrow and will keep you posted.
People, I know I can’t force you to be there, but this is a serious matter that is effecting all of us. Please try your utmost to be there as we might discuss additional fees for security personnel.
