Pandigital novel

White 7" Pandigital novel with open platform Android 2.1.1 with 2.6.29 kernel.

Loaded book covers entire screen and obliterates soft keys. That leaves me with no way out of the program except to shut down the PDN. When the program first runs, that is before I open a book, the soft keys are at the top with the shelves below. As soon as a book opens though, it goes full screen and covers the soft keys. 

I guess the question is how to avoid opening in full screen mode? Or, how to bring up soft keys?

Note (readr uses volume +/- to move through chapter so can't rewire it.
