Some of my ideas:

• event attendance on the iPad
• web delivery of help content via a Drupal CMS to a FileMaker
application
• charting of Admissions data with FileMaker Pro v11
• centralized tickler system for delivery of popup messages to
authenticated FMP users (I know that sounds really vague!)

php, PHP! Play around with the fm server/php interface, building up
modular code -- code that you can pick up and deploy in many different
solutions...

Can these offer an alternative to plug-ins? After all, the php
interface comes with fm server, so it's a waste not to use it!

Also, server-side scripts -- how can they lighten you workload?

Cheers,

J.

Charlie, I have been thinking about something very similar to your idea:

centralized tickler system for delivery of popup messages to
authenticated FMP users (I know that sounds really vague!)

and in fact have been doing a sort of test within the in-house tasks and projects database I have built.

I really really really wish I could come to devcamp but I can't because the timing is terrible for me.  It's school vacation week in NH, and it's also our Board of Trustees meeting on Friday and Saturday that week.

I've been bypassing PHP altogether and looking at other methods of working with FMP data (mostly ODBC/JDBC connections). I would love to try a simple project done both with the PHP API and with JDBC to compare the difference in performance.

Humbly, from a first-timer:

I'm coming to pick up what I can from other FMP developers, and to contribute what I can; help with cool projects.

Also, learn about APIs and integrating into a Web Viewer?

Better implementation of pre-fab email selection for automatic email generation.
