To get the creative juices flowing, take a look at these potentially
relevant technologies that I have found interesting:

Group Scheduling with Tungle (http://www.tungle.com/Home/)
FileMaker on the iPhone with FMTouch (http://www.fmtouch.com/)
The Google Data Protocol (http://code.google.com/apis/gdata/)
Google Maps API (http://code.google.com/apis/maps/)
Facebook Developers (http://developers.facebook.com/)
Tweet from FileMaker? (http://blog.longtermsolutions.com/?p=346)
Digital Fusion Reactor, FileMaker interfaces on steroids (http://
fusionplugins.com/)

This is just off the top of my head - please add your thoughts.

Hi Charlie,

I am not sure what you are looking for from us but I am really interested
in finding out if anybody has done any FM Touch development. I am in the
process of creating an application for the iPhone where teachers can
download their rosters and take attendance, then sync it with the server.
I have run into a bunch of flaky things and would love to collaborate with
others that are working with this technology. The other thing I am very
interested in is developing websites using PHP and making sure they are
secure. I have done some PHP development but would like to find out the
best technology to use to make sure the data going back and forth is
secure.

Thanks for the links! I will take a look :)

Tessy - thanks for the feedback. Marti at iR is interested in the attendance project too. She just completed a custom project using FMTouch to do after school attendance for a SANDBOX school.

You two should collaborate.

Marki,

You say that yours isn't working. What do you mean? Have you tried FM
Touch on the iPhone or Blackberry already?

Hello everyone,

I proposed a project that would be able to integrate with Generations.

Development office personnel spend a lot of time pouring over online networking sites to try and locate alumni. I would like to build a FaceBook application that would bring that data right to Generations.

I am working out the details now and I look forward to presenting the idea to you all at the beginning of Dev Camp.

See you then,

Steven

See you then, Marquis. There are some differences in functionality between FMTouch for Blackberry and FMTouch for iPod/iPhone. We can discuss that during DevCamp.

Take care and travel safely,
Marti

I really like the look of Google Calendar API: http://code.google.com/apis/calendar/

It seems like it might be a simple way to integrate appointment/event
scheduling into a calendar application.

This looks really interesting to me too. Is this API something that can
be called from Filemaker? We are considering going to google calendar
next academic year so it is something I will definitely need to learn how
to do.

I have only started to work with it, but using FileMaker and PHP, it looks like it would work.

Tessy,

I think a Tungle/Google Calendar mashup would be fantastic. Tungle can read Google Calendar directly and can manage invites - see busy time - and help coordinate meetings. What I don't see is how to schedule "available time slots" without blocking off everything that's not available.

I did an admissions office calendar several years ago and we began by creating events for the available interview slots. They initially had a status of available, and when a student was scheduled, the status was changed. It worked pretty well. I'd be curious to explore Tungle further - the interface is quite intuitive for scheduling meetings.
