Dear All,

We are in process of migrating from Sybase IQ which is on Solaris server to RHEL Linux server, I would like to know if there is any utility in order to perform this task, our database is around 5 TB.

If you anyone has done this type of task, could you please share the information on how you are performed. One of the idea we have in our plans to dump the data into files, copy to the linux server and then load it back but I'm sure there would be much smarter way of doing it.

Thanks in advance.

What Solaris?  Is it Intel/x64 or Sparc?

If it is x64, then a simple backup and restore will work as the endian nature of the data remains the same.  If it is Sparc based then you have to extract and load.  There are many different ways to do the extract/load from physical extraction and load to insert location.

Kar,
Big endian to little endian requires exactly that. Extract and load. Unfortunately IQ backups are platform specific.
Luckly your 5tb is a managable size  to move across.

Hi Karthik,

We did such a migration 3 years ago. We examined multiple options, BUT you have to extract the data (not binary) and load it again. Dus to the endian mismatch between the 2 chip sets and hence OS.

In our case we extracted 2 IQ 15.x databases and after extraction the total came to more than 100TB.

So some clever storage management is required if you also need a Data center migration as we did.

Regards,
Patrick

Hi all. You could also do a binary extract from IQ big endian and then a load into IQ little endian with  high order byte load  option and using client file ( it's fast : either via file or pipes . Check them out and choose ) . Don't forget the null per column extra bit in the load statement
Get metadata with iqunload.
