Dear Prof. Arunima and ex-WSP friends,

I write to you to request you to please read the message below from eminent historian Uma Chakravarti, and especially the attached document which is a request to the Chief Justice of India to have the truth about the Archaeological excavations at the Babri Masjid site public.
I would urge you to put in your names, along with institutional affiliation or professional identities so the list could increase phenomenally.

I am sorry for the rush.

Please forward to any people even a little informed about the issue and willing to put in their names. It will be good if we can send in around 15-20 names through our respective contacts by tomorrow evening if possible to Uma Chakravarti(e-mail in message below) so it can be forwarded to CJI asap.

This is a greatly crucial juncture in legal decisions w.r.t. justice and faith in this country and I'd be ever grateful if you can go through and endorse this.

In solidarity,
Radha

here is the final draft; please send us back the endorsements as quickly as is possible so that it can be carried as soon as possible.
If the institutional affiliations or professrional idnetities can come with the endorsements it will help in consolidating the signatures on the same pattern for all.
Thanks very much for the help in keeping this initiative going.warmly
uma chakravarti

The Ayodhya verdict has been based largely or partly  on a Report, submitted to the High Court in 2003, by the Archaeological Survey of India after its excavations on the site. As citizens we demand that now this Report must be published and be available to all citizens for their scrutiny.

We learn that two archaeologists,  D. Mandal and Shereen Ratnagar, who critiqued this Report in a book published in 2007,  were served with a contempt of court notice by the High Court of Allahabad this summer. The orders in this case are yet to be passed. It appears that these archaeologists have been effectively silenced. Will the Chief Justice of India look into the matter?

Uma Chakravarti, historian (retired from Delhi University)
