Hello everybody,

"Router assigns global addresses on Network1 to allow DNS-Server and Host1 to have off-link routing".

Pls advise whether my understanding is correct or not upon above statement ?

1.Router assigns IP through RA to DNS server and host1 by disabling the "AdvOnLink off" flag   ?
what is the advantage of doing so ?
2.Can run TWO Router advertisements application in a router in two different interfaces ?

Please put some light to clear my doubt .

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Aditya

Hi Aditya,

1. "AdvOnLink off" flag indicates that the prefix annouced in the RA is off the link means not directly reachable and hence will be reachable through default gateway of RA.

2. Yes, RA can be released per interface of router.

If I can depict your sayings then Host1 is reachable to DNS via router only as DNS is off the link.
