Vince, did you see Taibi’s piece last week about how the Times (and presumably other big survivors) chsnged business model, from reliance on advertisers to reliance on reader subscriptions, had weakened its editorial hand? Advertisers each had narrow, provincial sensitivities, so the Times was boss. Nothing could cause all advertisers to walk at once, and no handful of advertisers really mattered. But now the subscriber base is remarkably like-mind3d....well educated, liberal, and quite angry these days. The recent headline revision fiasco would never have occurred due to the wrath of any advertiser or biz coalition. But now, it happens.
