As we count down the final hours of 2015, a momentous year for many reasons, one of the most profound to me has been the legalization of gay marriage. On June 26th of this year I quietly celebrated for my gay and lesbian friends—several of whom subsequently tied the knot. It had been a long, arduous and twisting road to gaining what I felt was a fundamental right for all Americans, regardless of sexual orientation.

Following, is SCOTUS' Justice Anthony Kennedy's beautiful final paragraph from his majority opinion and order that made gay marriage legal in the United States. Additional interesting extracts from the majority and dissenting opinions can be found here: http://www.politico.com/story/2015/06/supreme-court-justices-opinions-memorable-quotes-gay-marriage-119477

Happy New Year.

No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.

The judgement of the Court of Appeals for the Sixth District is reversed.

It is so ordered.

— The Honorable Joseph Anthony Kennedy

By Kennedy's eloquent words, the vast majority welcome a tiny minority into a fundamentally conservative institution.

In comparison, transgender permissions are breathtakingly radical.  That says it is the inalienable right of every human being to select his or her own gender, regardless of biology.  The galloping technology now puts the age for best medical results at 10-12.  Most current patients are 16-18.  Beyond age 20, disappointing results becomes likely.  So the pressure to act is built in.

It will not take long before every teen knows that a psycho-sexual do-over is the default cure for poor social results in adolescence.  Why wouldn't they try a freshly dealt hand?  Ready to bet the society's social equilibrium on teenagers management of social angst?
