Last week, Sec. of the Treasury, Jack Lew, announced that a woman would appear on the next generation of $10 bills. Ben Bernanke thinks that's a bad idea. He argues, with great persuasiveness, that the $10-spot should retain Alexander Hamilton's august image. At the very least, he he advocates that at least one of every two $10 bills should bear Hamilton's visage. But he thinks a better solution would be to replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 with a woman. I agree wholeheartedly. Jackson's contributions to American history (defying the Supreme Court, violating federal law, perceiving Native Americans as a scourge) pale against Hamilton's achievements. Admittedly, not everybody agrees with this point of view.
