I listened to that RadioLab back in July. It was the least compelling and convincing episode I ever heard from them. That Obama demo is risible.
There was a better discussion on Sam Harris’ podcast. I’m just trying to remember which episode.

The tl;dr is that sound and pictures are entering the domain where text has been for centuries: Easy to fake. And yet we somehow find ways to tease fake text apart from real text eventually. Once a technology is ubiquitous then everybody kind of knows how it works and how it could be used to fool people.
