Thank you Brian for inviting me to this group.
Born and raised in South Africa, initial field of study polymer chemistry and plastic technology, worked as a technical rep for an international Plastics consortium. Managed to get out of the South African military (conscripted) by volunteering to assist Israel in the Six Day War, needless to say they didnt need me. Loved the Kibbutz where I lived for several years, farming and in winter working in the carpentry shop mentored by an old Arab carpenter, the Kibbutz was in Nazareth which has a history of distinguished carpenters ;)
Immigrated to the USA in 1970, went back to school, Cal State LA and got my bachelors in Pedagogy and then served several years teaching in Peace Corps Tunisia.
After Peace Corps decided to follow my passion for woodworking and acquired a workshop designing and building furniture. Changed couse and went to SF City College and became a Cardiac Sonographer, worked in the Cardiology Dept at Brookside Hospital. After this I developed an interest in computers and became an Apple Certified Engineer working for Desktop and Autodesk and Kagi as a workstation specialist. Prior to me retiring in 2010 I spent my final ten years as a Technology Specialist for the Marin County Office of Education and the Kentfield Schools District.
I bounce back and forth politically, I am conservative on fiscal and security matters but liberal on social issues. I am a radical atheist, like Douglas Adams, I say this to avoid being taken for agnostic. I like to identify as being a feckless pirate.
Lots of hobbies, and interests, unabashed Zionist, passionate about education and am constantly taking or giving classes in one subject or another. Have a wife and 30 year old son, also dogs, chickens and fish. I enjoy discussion regarding opinion and arguing about fact.
Hope I’m not boring you with too much detail but I am glad to meet you all and look forward to hearing from you.
