Hello,

If you guys are doing any tests on EC2 instances, you may want to know
that I am running the following version of java on our servers:

sudo yum install java-1.7.0-openjdk-devel-1.7.0.55-2.4.7.1.40.amzn1.x86_64

[ec2-user@ip-172-31-12-54 ~]$ java -version
java version "1.7.0_55"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (amzn-2.4.7.1.40.amzn1-x86_64 u55-b13)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.51-b03, mixed mode)
[ec2-user@ip-172-31-12-54 ~]$

Cheers,
Marek

Hi Marek and IPPC Competitors,

I cannot claim definitively that OpenJDK is the source of the Server crashes some competitors have been seeing, but I note that in previous code development (not RDDLSim) I encountered some unexplained crashes with OpenJDK that went away when switching to the Sun/Oracle JVM.

I'm currently running

  java version "1.7.0_04"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_04-b22)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.0-b21, mixed mode)

and have not been able to reproduce the Server crashes.

Marek, would you mind switching the Servers to use the Sun/Oracle JVM?

Also, if competitors encounter a Server crash during their own evaluation trials and are running a non-Sun/Oracle JVM, I recommend they try switching JVMs.

Any feedback on whether this helps or not would be useful.

Thanks,
Scott

That makes sense. I will use Oracle JVM on our servers for any experiment that will happen since now.

Cheers,
Marek
