Subject: [IAGCParentAffiliates] Characteristics of Gifted Children - 7 p.m. 1/22 in Hinsdale

Please join us on Wednesday, January 22 at 7 p.m. at the Nurturing Wisdom Academy, 125 South Vine, Hinsdale, when we welcome Lauren Callaway, director of Sprout Gifted, for a roundtable discussion about the characteristics of gifted children: what you should know.  This is a FREE monthly event put on by Chicago Gifted Community Center, though registration is required: chicagogiftedcommunity.org. (Next month: Executive Function.) I look forward to seeing you all there!   Please feel free to invite anyone you think would be interested.  More details on attached flyer and below:

----------------------------------------------

Parenting gifted children can be a lonely undertaking.  You are always on your guard, so you do not offend parents of more typically developing children, and yet you have questions and concerns about your kids that you would like to share.  Furthermore, there are idiosyncrasies that gifted children share, such as sensitivities, perfectionism, lack of challenge, that take special parenting skills.  Come hear about common characteristics of gifted children and participate in our roundtable discussion!

Lauren Callaway is the owner/director of Sprout - Enrichment for the Gifted Child, an after school and summer program focusing on socialization and enrichment of Chicago's gifted children.  She also does teacher in-service lectures on identification and differentiation, and advocacy for parents in the school system.  In the past, Lauren taught 3rd grade at a private school in Lincoln Park and for National Louis University's Center for Gifted.  Mother of two girls, one of whom is gifted (the other one just turned 3 - we'll see about her), life is a constant adventure.

We hope you can join us!

You may park in front or in the Zion Church parking lot across the street.

Registration is required for this free open roundtable discussion. To register, please go to The Chicago Gifted Community Center web site: chicagogiftedcommunity.org and select CGCC Event Registrations. The Chicago Gifted Community Center is a not for profit with the mission to facilitate educational and emotional support for gifted children and their families.
