It is late and I am dead tired, so I'll probably edit this tomorrow morning, but just to throw it up.

We Didn't Do Our HomeworkNovember 7, 2006
Going against my gut feeling, I posted earlier about Office Depot's $299 (after-rebate) laptop computer: I thought this was Office Depot's attempt at flying straight. Nope, it's pretty much border-line con.

The math broke down like this:

$579.99 + ~7.5% tax (this varies by region, I used 7.5% because I think it's a median value) = $623.50

$623.50 - $280 in rebates = $343.50 + a free printer (including tax).

Granted, this laptop wasn't as powerful as Walmart's, it was still $50 cheaper and a comparable alternative. Unfortunately, to order this, you had to go to a retail Office Depot location and have a Customer Service Representative punch in the Configuration Number to order it for you. But that's not all. Since Office Depot would be shipping to you, they were charging a near minimum $50 shipping fee. One BFAds user reported he was quoted a shipping and handling fee of $78!

The shipping fee would bring the laptop to $400, which would be after rebates and would be a lesser system than Walmart's. I personally apologize for this over-sight and hope you accept my apologies.

In the original post I said how horrible Office Depot's rebates were, as evident by the following sites: Ripoff Report, Reseller Ratings (1.52/10) and Shopping.com's amount of users that will never shop at Office Depot again. And perhaps my favorite thing about all of this, Office Depot owns the site OfficeDepotStinks.com. They are apparently aware of the mass dislike directed towards them!

Office Depot's less than honest business tactics are not supported by BFAds.net. We will no longer be posting any of their items or Black Friday advertisements. We suggest you look at more respectable office supply stores such as OfficeMax (whose Black Friday sale has ABSOLUTELY NO REBATES) or Staples.

JC Penney Sale Information PostedNovember 7, 2006
Just got a hold of the 73 item JC Penney Early Bird sale information. These are only the Early Bird (5am - noon) items, the rest of their advertisement has yet to be posted.

Check back soon for more updates!

Thanks for coming and tell your friends!

Unmentioned Update RoundupNovember 6, 2006
New Features

Forum member The Zach101 wanted to know if we were ever going to update the store hours. We've done one better, including store opening times on each store's page and adding a Store Locater (see image below). Our Store Hours page includes all known store opening and closing times.

We've also changed our Mailing List manager and will be sending out a new mailing tonight to break it in. :)

New Sales Information

We posted the 41 item Fred's sale information earlier this week. Using our newly implemented Store Locater, it appears that Fred's is a discount store (like Longs and Rite-Aid) which has locations throughout most of the south-eastern United States.

We've also posted the 25 item KB Toys sale information. Hopefully the advertisement scan will come soon.

Just as I was typing this up, we received the 23 item EB Games/GameStop sale information along with it's two page 2 page advertisement scan.

New Advertisement Scans

The following stores advertisement scans have been posted on our Advertisement Scan page. This represents a complete list of all Black Friday advertisement scans currently available on the internet.

  • EB Games/GameStop

  • Freds

  • Harbor Freight

  • Kmart (Black Friday)

  • Kmart Saturday

  • Office Max

Current predictions look like we're a little bit ahead of last year in terms of amount of advertisement information available. We are expecting to receive a lot more ads this coming week. If you have access to a Black Friday advertisement (even if it's already been posted, we're always looking for higher quality copies!) please contact us! We do compensate for your time and efforts!

Kmart Advertisement Scans PostedNovember 5, 2006
We just got our hands on the Kmart Black Friday and Saturday sales advertisement scans. Each ad is four pages. There are another 32 pages which have not been posted yet. I've added what I can to the Kmart Text Listing, but it looks like our previous lists were incorrect and incomplete. We'll probably just have to re-do the entire Kmart listing.

But it's currently 5:40am and I haven't slept, so hopefully this is suitable for now. My apologies on not getting back to everyone about the mailing list, things have been a bit hectic. If you've emailed me and have not received a response, you should by Monday morning.

Thanks for coming and tell your friends!

Panasonic 42" Plasma TV - $1348November 5, 2006
Yesterday I posted about Wal*Mart lowering prices on a 42" Panasonic Plasma television. The model was rumored to be the TH-42PX60U model, which is the HDTV model and SHOULD NOT be confused with the lower priced EDTV TH-42PD60U model.

Sure enough, that price ($+50) is showing up online at Wal*Mart.com. WalMart.com is currently offering the Panasonic 42" Widescreen Plasma HDTV w/ Built-In Digital Tuner (TH-42PX60U) for $1348 with FREE Shipping to your local Walmart store. Click Here to Buy It Now for $1348 @ Walmart.com Out of Stock

This television was given the rating of 97.5% by Plasma TV Buying Guide. They even claimed:

Wow, once the picture was calibrated the TH-42PX600U had undoubtedly the truest picture of any television that we have tested to date.

CNET also reviewed the TH-42PX60U claiming that "The Panasonic TH-42PX60U sets the standard for value among full-featured 42-inch plasmas."

The TH-42PX60U features the following:

  • Diagonal Screen Size: 42"

  • Aspect Ratio: 16:9 (Widescreen)

  • HDTV Compatibility: 480p/720p/1080i

  • Native Resolution: 1024x768

  • Contrast Ratio: Up to 10,000:1
For complete technical specifications, head over to Panasonic's website. Or check out the thread in our discussion forums.
Wal*Mart Lowering Prices on ElectronicsNovember 4, 2006
Recent news should make for a very interesting Black Friday at Wal*Mart. According to a CNN Money article, Wal*Mart will be offering significant savings on high definition (HD) televisions, digital cameras and cell phones.. Such items include:
  • Panasonic 42" HD Plasma - $1,294 (was $1,794)
  • Polaroid 37" LCD HDTV - $997 (was $1,297)
  • Kodak C875 Digital Camera - $249.64 (was $298.77)
  • Various pre-paid phones, including the Cingular C139
Apparently stores have encountered lackluster sales this quarter and will need to start the price-wars early to recover in November and December.
OfficeMax Items PostedNovember 2, 2006
We just received the 65 item Office Max sales information. Advertisement scans are on their way. One great thing about this ad: no rebates.
Regarding our Mailing ListNovember 2, 2006
If you are having trouble or have not been receiving our notifications from our mailing list (two have been sent out, another is being sent currently) please contact us at mail...@bfads.net. Because our mailing list was so large, we were blocked by a couple email providers which prevented some users (AOL users especially) receiving email from us. Everything on our end should be sorted out now. If you use a spam blocker (such as SpamArrest), please whitelist the address webm...@bfads.net.

If you would like to subscribe to our mailing list, enter your email address in the box above and click the button “Signup.”
