Hi there Andrew,
I wanted to make a suggestion since the limitations of the Compendium
prevent some info from showing about classes and Paragon Paths and
such. Can the notes field be another window of the Build field instead
of the Powers field so that you can take notes about the benefits that
you cannot see and have that available to you while you play.

thank you
Brad Sumner

Brad,

The essential objection is that you can't view Notes and Power
simultaneously, right? I can understand that.

I'm a little concerned about the size of that white box being too
small for Notes - especially for folks with edit authority that need
the Save and Revert buttons. Perhaps this would need to happen
hand-in-hand with a somewhat taller version of the sheet.

The other concern is that the current arrangement puts the bits that
are "siblings" in the Character Builder next to each other in iplay4e.
This one isn't as big a deal.

Do you (or anyone else!) have any ideas about this that might address
the core objection while being sensitive to my concerns?

Cheers,
Andrew

Sorry it has taken me a while to reply to this.

It sounds like you are wanting ideas of alternate layouts to help with your core concern (the field being too small).

If that is the case my suggestion would be one that is a little strange sounding at first but hopefully will make sense.  I would suggest making the section that holds Skills & Abilities have a second tab.  Your first thought would be that I would suggest putting the notes there, but that to too narrow, while yes you could widen it I understand your sizing concerns and would not suggest that.  I would instead have the second tab hold the Build info in one long column (if this means moving the skills and such to the left hand side and the fields on the left to the right that is up to you).  This would leave the box where Build was empty and means that Feats and Languages and Proficiencies could enlarge to be the entire height.  This would serve two functions.  First as characters level they get more and more feats, that coupled with the short descriptions of the feats makes the list hard to see all at once.  Since Feats are not automatically added to powers (mostly due to conditional situations) this would help ensure that they do not get forgotten.  The second function would be that having it longer like this would allow for the notes field to be moved to this box.  While this does separate it from its fellows (appearance, traits, companions) it is not unwieldy.
The most difficult issue I can see with this alternate layout is that you would have a harder time with the links for the tabs in the Skills area (as the words "Skills & Abilities" takes up nearly the entire width), and the new larger feats area (unless you abbreviate Languages to Lang and Proficiencies to Prof).
