While many Kats and readers are enduring a very cold start to the year in Europe, the IP calendar is already heating up with events and opportunities. Here's some of the latest updates:

IBIL PhD Conference - call for applications closing soon!
The UCL Institute of Brand and Innovation Law (IBIL) has launched the Call for Papers for its third PhD IP Conference to be held on 24 June 2026 at the UCL Faculty of Laws, London. This is a forum especially for IP PhD students to present a "work in progress" paper, obtain feedback, meet peers, and network.
There will be a prize for the best conference paper, and those who have presented will also have the opportunity to submit their paper to UCL Laws' open access, peer-reviewed journal, the UCL Journal of Law and Jurisprudence.
The deadline for applications is closing soon: 12 January 2026. Full details here.
The PhD conference will be followed by IBIL’s Annual Sir Hugh Laddie Lecture (details to be announced in due course).
Sir Richard Arnold 10th Anniversary Annual Lecture
The Centre for Law Society and Popular Culture (University of Westminster) is hosting Sir Richard Arnold's 10th Anniversary Annual Lecture at 17:30 on Tuesday 17 February. The event is open to all students, colleagues, alumni and members of the public. There will be a reception after the lecture.

ATRIP Mid-Year Webinar
This year's mid-year webinar will focus on "Global Developments in Technology Transfer: Innovation in Transition." It will take place on Zoom at 15:00 CET on Friday 16 January. Speakers include Jorge Contreras, Timo Minssen, Justyna Ożegalska-Trybalska, Masabumi Suzuki, and McLean Sibanda, with the discussion chaired by Caroline B Ncube.
The webinar is open to both members and non-members of the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP). Details and registration here.
CLA event reminder: Good and Bad Faith in IP Disputes
The Competition Law Association (CLA) will be holding an evening event entitled "Keeping the Faith: the role of good and bad faith in IP disputes" on Thursday 22 January at 6.00pm at Freshfields LLP. The speakers are Anna Edwards-Stuart KC and Christopher Stothers. The session will be followed by drinks and canapés.

There is a registration fee for non-members (with discounted rates available for full time academic/public sector employees, as well as students, trainees, and pupil barristers). Online registration will close midday Wednesday 21 January.
ISHTIP - Deadline extended
The International Society for the History and Theory of Intellectual Property (ISHTIP) have extended the deadline for submission of paper proposals for their 17th Annual Workshop in São Paulo, Brazil. The theme this year is "Intellectual Property and Democracy."
Proposals are now due by 16 January 2026. Details and submission instructions here.
