Those preparing AIPPI UK’s response will all be in attendance."
The UK National Group of AIPPI has been busy. On 25 November at 6PM, it is also organizing a panel session on the "UK courts' approach to awarding interim licence declarations in SEP cases". Organized by Cat Howell (EIP) and this Kat, Myles Jelf (Bristows) will moderate a panel comprising of Mr Justice Mellor, Sarah Abram KC and James Segan KC on IP law's fastest-evolving topic. Hosted at Bristows, the event - even more timely in the wake of various anti-suit activity between the UK, UPC and German courts - promises the following:
"...[The panel] will unpack the UK courts’ approach, with insights on the current case law covering the early origins in Panasonic v Xiaomi and Lenovo v Ericsson, the progression in Alcatel v Amazon and the latest developments in Samsung v ZTE. The panel will also look ahead to how national courts - including the UK, US ITC, India, China, Germany, and the UPC - are shaping global licensing frameworks amid increasingly complex parallel proceedings. With growing international attention and commentary, this promises to be a timely and thought-provoking conversation."
The event is free for members, and new applicants to membership. Details can be found here.
"We are delighted to mark the UNION-IP Christmas dinner with our speaker Mark Chacksfield KC, épéeist, pentathlete, zoologist and, of course, lead counsel for Emotional Perception before the Patents Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. A standout figure in UK patent litigation, Mark brings a wealth of experience from high-stakes disputes across pharmaceuticals, biotech, and telecoms.
Mark will be sharing his insights into the legal and technical questions raised by artificial neural networks and their place in patent law—an area now under the spotlight whilst we await the decision of the Supreme Court."
