PermaKat Eleonora Rosati contributes to the UK Parliament report on AI, copyright, and the creative industries.

The Communications and Digital Committee has published its report ‘AI, copyright and the creative industries’. The inquiry was launched to feed into the government's work on copyright and Artificial Intelligence (AI). PermaKat Eleonora contributed to the inquiry as a witness for Questions 17 – 33. The report comprises recommendations for creating a regime that safeguards creators while harnessing AI for creativity and economic growth, such as championing the development of technical standards for rights reservation, data provenance, and the labelling of AI-generated content. WIPO: Launch of Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Interchange (AIII).

Spring is coming!

On 17 March 2026, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will launch the Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Interchange (AIII, pronounced “A-triple-I”). The initiative aims to foster a dialogue on technical and operational aspects of IP in the context of AI. The programme includes several speakers and will conclude with a reception and musical performance in collaboration with WIPO CLIP. EUIPO: 6^th edition of the IP Case Law Conference.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) will hold the 6th edition of the IP Case Law Conference on 21 and 22 May 2026. The hybrid event will address, inter alia, key rulings of the General Court and the Boards of Appeal, the latest copyright and AI disputes, and global perspectives on trademarks and domain-name conflicts. Opportunities

Call for Submissions: Jacques Lassier Prize 2026.

The International League of Competition Law (LIDC) is seeking submissions for the Jacques Lassier Prize 2026. The prize is awarded for a written work on competition law, including unfair commercial practices and intellectual property. The winner will receive €2,000 as the prize, which will be formally presented during the 2026 LIDC Congress to be held in Bucharest in October this year. The deadline for submissions is 15 May 2026. IViR: Scholarship for visiting scholars with limited financial resources.

The Institute for Information Law (IViR) will grant one scholarship to a selected scholar from one of OECD-designated Least Developed, Low Income, Lower Middle and Upper Middle-Income Countries. Applicants must meet the standards and research focus of IViR (e.g., intellectual property, technology and data governance). The annual lump sum of up to €3,000 will be provided to the scholar to support travel, living expenses, and accommodation in Amsterdam. The deadline for submissions is 1 October 2026. The Publishers Association: UK publishing and the AI licensing market.

The Publishers Association released its report ‘Content Superpower: UK publishing and the AI licensing market’, which is based on a survey and interviews with its members. The report addresses how publishers license content for use in AI. Some of the key findings are: publishers have been licensing content for text and data mining (TDM) for a decade, with the first licenses for AI training agreed by 2023; licensing for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) is now a growing part of the market; publishers have developed proprietary AI products and services; and the number of publishers involved in AI licensing is forecasted to double by the end of 2026. USTR: 2025 Review of Notorious Markets for Counterfeiting and Piracy.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has released its 2025 Review of Notorious Markets for Counterfeiting and Piracy (a.k.a., Notorious Markets List). This year, the issue focus section addresses the piracy of live sports broadcasts and the protection of copyright in the digital age. The 2025 Notorious Markets List identifies 32 physical and 37 online markets reportedly engaging in or facilitating substantial counterfeiting or piracy. More information is available here.

WIPO: 2^nd edition of the Guide to the Copyright and Related Rights Treaties.

The 2nd edition of the ‘Guide to the Copyright and Related Rights Treaties Administered by WIPO’ has been published. It comprises background information, article-by-article interpretation, and an introduction to the instruments. This edition includes the Beijing and Marrakesh Treaties. Further details here.
