The Copyright Society’s 50thAnnual Meeting.
The Copyright Society’s 50thAnnual Meeting will be held from 14 to 16 June 2026 in Louisville, Kentucky. The two-and-a-half-day event will cover the latest developments in copyright law, including views from the U.S. Copyright Office, sessions on copyright termination, and the politicization of copyright. ALAI Congress 2026: Copyright and Free Expression in the Age of Algorithms.
The ALAI Congress will take place from 17 to 19 June 2026 in The Hague, the Netherlands. The event is hosted by the Vereniging voor Auteursrecht (VvA), the Dutch national group of the International Literary and Artistic Association (ALAI, Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale). This year’s theme is ‘Copyright and Free Expression in the Age of Algorithms’. The program comprises, inter alia, sessions on the idea-versus-expression debate in the age of algorithms, with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) generated content, text and data mining (TDM), and AI training. The first Next Generation event for early-career copyright scholars and practitioners, a dinner celebrating the ALAI European Authors’ Right Award, and social activities, including a visit to the beautiful city of Delft, are part of the event. ATRIP 44th Annual Congress.
The International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP) will hold its 44th Annual Congress from 28 June to 1 July 2026 in São Paulo, Brazil. This year’s theme is ‘Intellectual Property and Politics: From Power Relations to Realpolitik’. The program will cover sessions on copyright, AI governance, generative AI, trade secrets, and data governance. Registration and further details here.
MARQUES 40th Annual Conference.
The 2026 MARQUES Annual Conference will take place from 22 to 25 September 2026 in Lisbon, Portugal. This year’s theme is ‘The Exciting Evolution of Trademarks’. The program will cover sessions on the intersection of geographical indications, trademarks, and international trade; the new Digital Product Passport; the annual review of CJEU and EU General Court case law; and interactive workshops on AI, unconventional trademarks, and anti-counterfeiting. University of Lapland: PhD in data regulation and digital cultural heritage.
The University of Lapland is calling for applications for a PhD position in data regulation and digital cultural heritage. Candidates should have an interest in cultural heritage, AI, or digital data environments, and be familiar with data regulation or digital governance. EUIPN: Guide for the implementation of CIGIR.
The European Union Intellectual Property Network (EUIPN) has released the ‘Practical Guide for CIGIR Implementation’. The document has been established by the Virtual Community dedicated to supporting the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2023/2411 on the protection of geographical indications for craft and industrial products (CIGIR), under the European Cooperation Project 1 within the European Union Intellectual Property Office’s strategic plan 2030. The Guide comprises more than 200 questions raised by EU Member States, aimed at supporting Intellectual Property offices in implementing the new legislation on craft and industrial geographical indications (CIGIs).
