Participant eager to discuss Streamz
|
From 25 to 27 November 2026,
ERA’s Annual Conference on European Copyright Law returns for three online morning sessions (CET), bringing together practitioners, academics, stakeholders and EU experts to discuss what has been happening and what lies ahead in European copyright law.
This year’s programme will look at some of the issues currently keeping copyright lawyers particularly busy, including the impact of recent rulings adopted by the CJEU on Article 15 CDSM like the Grand Chamber’s CJEU decision in Meta and other key cases dealing with offline streaming copies, reproduction of short media text on social media, and the so called residual right of remuneration. The pending CJEU case Streamz, for which the conclusions of the Advocate General are expected to be delivered a few days before the event, will be in the spotlight too.
According to the organizers, the aim of this event organised since more than 20 years is not simply to provide an update on recent developments, but also to question the main dynamics currently shaping and challenging EU copyright law, such as:
- Main priorities of the European Commission in framing the future of EU copyright law
- Whether the EU legal framework for collective management of rights reached its goals and is it still adapted to disruptive technologies
- What so far has been done to ensure that online platforms and users respect authors rights
- Whether mediation could be used more to solve copyright and licensing issues
- Whether copyright law can be a tool to protect against deepfake
- How to ensure a sustainable ecosystem where creative value, fair reward and AI innovation go hand in hand
- How copyright can keep up with Gen-AI in the music and film sectors
- Whether the development of new technologies is putting the press sector at a turning point
As regular attendees will know, the conference has a strong international dimension. Last year, more than 50 participants from across Europe joined the event. This year’s speaker line-up will once again bring together different perspectives, with contributions from the European Commission, Court of Justice of the European Union, private practice, stakeholder organisations, and academia.
