I'm getting an error message saying my iPhoto Library is invalid. Any
ideas?

python iphotoexport.py -e. -l ." ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library" ~/Pictures/
Album

My goal is to sync with Picasa. Does linked mode work for this?

Nitin,
you got your command line a little mangled up. Watch out for the
spaces and periods. I also do not recommend exporting to ~/Pictures.
Better to make a folder, like ~/Pictures/Album, to not get your
exports mixed up with other files and folders in ~/Pictures. Try:

python iphotoexport.py -e . -l "~/Pictures/iPhoto Library" ~/
Pictures/Album

Thanks for the quick response. I'm having a couple of other problems as well. I am using the following command and expect to have face tags added in Picasa. It isn't working though:

python iphotoexport.py -e . -l -f -u -d --places --picasa ~/Pictures/"iPhoto Library" ~/Pictures/Album

Does the face tagging functionality not work in linked mode?

Sorry, face tags will not show up in Picasa. Picasa does not have an
API or other supported mechanism to import face tags. There is also no
standard yet for embedding face information into image meta data. The -
f option copies face names into image keywords. That's the best that's
possible at this point.

If you look at the just released Aperture 3 application, you will find
it offers exactly the same option of copying face names into keywords
on export :-)

I guess I wasn't very clear. I'm just looking for the face tags to be turned into keywords. That doesn't seem to work for me. Could this be because I'm using it in linked mode?

Did you previously run this command without the -f option maybe? By
default, iphotoexport does not check files that were already exported
for meta data updates. Add the option --iptcall to force it to recheck
previously exported images again.

Thanks for the continued support. I've decided to let Picasa do it's face detection thing on its own. I find it is much quicker and accurate than Apple's. One annoyance I've found is certain characters being replaced with underscores (e.g. @). I've already synced some of these albums with Picasa Web.

If I change album names in iPhoto Picasa orphans the album on Picasa Web and thinks it sees a new album. Is there anyway to get Picasa to recognize this as a name change? What if I change the album name in Picasa?

I should probably just pick one solution (iPhoto or Picasa) but I find neither completely satisfying.

Yes, the hybrid solution of trying to use both iPhoto and Picasa isn't
perfect.

If you rename an entire album in iPhoto, and you already have this
album synched to Picasa Web, I recommend manually renaming the folder
in Picasa. Then Picasa will just sync the name change to PicasaWeb
without creating a new album, and the next time you run iphotoexport,
it will just see the renamed folder, and leave it alone.

It would be cool if you could recognize folder name changes by looking
at the contents of the folder on each side. Is there a way to change
the iPhoto event name by changing a folder name or via an API?
