Hello,

Although the latest update of 1.1.1 didn't come with so-called
International Keyboard, it didn't necessary mean we won't be able to
use it. Actually, we can. The trick is "lang" attribute.

If you are interested in International Keyboard for languages other
than English, let's take a look at
http://nh7a.vox.com/library/post/enabling-international-keyboard-of-iphone.html
and try the bookmarklet on the page which forces every input forms on
your current page to use lang="whatever".

Unfortunately, this no longer works with the latest firmware of 1.1.2.

Not only does 1.1.2 enable only 4 languages (English, French, German,
and Italian) out of much more, but also it disables reflecting "lang"
attribute. What a terrible decision Apple made.

So, if you'd want to use a Keyboard for languages other than above
four, jailbreak (and modify plist) seems to be the only way on 1.1.2.
Sigh.

Do you guys happen to know what the option under Settings, "Asian
Language" where you can choose Chinese or Japanese does? Lacking
documentation so far, I can't really figure out what the setting means
or what it affects.

Many Kanjis are visually slightly different in Japanese and in Chinese
although they are sharing the same code points in Unicode. So, if you
use Chinese font to display Japanese text, it tends to appear somewhat
ugly. Vice versa.

Default Asian font for 1.1.1 happened to be Chinese font while
previous versions (ie. 1.0.0 and 1.0.2) were using Japanese font.
Therefore, when we updated to 1.1.1, we saw all Japanese website
became somewhat ugly.

If you don't read Japanese nor Chinese, or if you don't recognize the
difference between both glyphs, it doesn't matter at all.
