Two weeks from this Saturday, we're planning on meeting around 2 or 3
pm.

I'll follow up closer to the date with a location. This will be our
standard M.O., basically just hanging out talking about iPhone apps
and app development. No need to RSVP, but do let me know if you have
any location ideas or opinions.

see you then (if you can make it!)

PS, I've noticed there are a ton of spam messages in the discussion
area, but I haven't seen those come through as emails. Has anyone? Has
it been a problem? I can switch the group so you have to apply for
membership and that might cut down on those spam threads... what do
people think?

Gmail filters the spam (since you are gmail like me).  Check your gmail spam folder and you'll find the messages.

IMO, best thing would be to make it member only unless there are other options.  Can it be member only to post, but not to view?

Yes. I changed the settings to require membership to post (anyone can
still view). There was one other setting that looked promising, it
forces messages from new members into moderation, which would, in
theory, allow us to keep the group "open" to any new members, but that
seemed like probably just as much work as approving all new members,
so I just went with the requiring approval for new members checkbox.
We have such low numbers that it's probably not a big deal.

I've just discovered that Oct. 24th is the same day as the TC Code
Camp VII. It's a mostly micro$oft-centric conference, but it's free,
and it's at the U. It's in the C-Sci building, and there is a nice
lounge in that building that should provide us place to hang out and
stuff.

Here's the schedule:
http://www.twincitiescodecamp.com/TCCC/Fall2009/Schedule.aspx

I probably won't show up until after lunch, when I'm interested in
"Fun! Fun! Fun! With ASP.NET MVC View Engines" (which sounds like M$'s
version of apple's UIView and UIViewController objects), but it's at
the same time as "Effective Graphics Storing Techniques for Games",
which is probably what I'll end up going to. I might show up earlier
for "Domain Driven Design"... maybe. I'll probably end the day at
"Start Developing Flash Applications...for Free!".

You are supposed to register for the conference here:
http://www.nhmn.com/Courses/CrsDetail.aspx?C=NHTCCodeCampVII

(Don't be deterred by the convoluted and completely stupid
registration UI.) But at the last one I went to, nobody would have
known--or cared--if you just walked in off the street. (And the
building is open anyway, because it's the U.)

So... it doesn't look like there's anything terribly exciting (to me)
from about 2 to 3:45, and I'll probably plan on hanging out in the
atrium during that time (for anyone who wants to come, but isn't
interested in the conference.

Hope to see some of you then,
