I built the app and installed. Followed the steps, but no success

This is where I'm at:
When I connect to "mywifi" on iphone, I dont get wifi icon, I still
have 3G, is this expected?
When I open SOCKS app, I get IP 169.254.145.125 : 20000

On Mac, when I connect to 'mywifi' the wifi icon is gray with a
computer in it
It gets IP 169.254.125.66

Any suggestions?

For me (and many others) it is working (also on iPhone 3G)
Looks like everything is working for you,

You start by crearting an ad-hoc network on the Mac (from your email
it looks as if you went the other way around although I think you
didnt)
you then get a gray icon on the top right corner of the Mac which
looks like a pizza slice with a old-style Mac on it.

It takes some time for the iPhone to start the wifi connection because
it has to first time-out from finding a DHCP server
you can test your wifi connection by doing a ping on your Mac to the
iPhone (but this was never needed.)
The wifi/3G icon on the iphone is not reliable so ignore it.

What is important is to configure the browser on the Mac to use SOCKS
Proxy (see home page of project)

Thanks, got it to work, not sure what I was doing wrong before, just
followed the process again and it works great.

I did not do any proxy setting for browser, just did the proxy socks
settings in mac network setting and tried in chrome browser, it
worked. I think I was trying firefox proxy setting before and for some
reason it was not working. But works great on Chrome.

Is there any way to get internet to work on iPad, i.e form iPhone to
iPad, instead of iPhone to Mac, i did not find any SOCKS proxy setting
in iPad.

There is a way to configure the iPad to use SOCKS using a file (PAC)
which you need to place in any web server which is accessiable by the
iPad (googel it.)
One option would be to build a special web server as part of the
iphone-socks-proxy App that will only delivier this file.
I dont have an iPad to test all this, but if you have the code working
I will be happy to add it to the project.
