Barry, Ronnie,
The additions In the KosherJava zmanim API mentioned by Victor were
the ones added in v1.1 (see
http://www.kosherjava.com ), The specific
zmanim Victor is referring to are the ones with method names of
AteretTorah in the method names. These are the ones used by the Syrian
community using the psak of Chacham Yosef Harari-Raful. Please keep in
mind that these methods do not cover all zmanim (intentionally) and
are not used by all Sepharadim. The methods include:
getSofZmanShmaAteretTorah()
getSofZmanTfilahAteretTorah()
getMinchaGedolaAteretTorah()
getMinchaKetanaAteretTorah()
getPlagHaminchaAteretTorah()
getShaahZmanisAteretTorah()
getTzaisAteretTorah() //not used for end of Shabbos typically
setAteretTorahSunsetOffset(double ateretTorahSunsetOffset) //used to
change default 40 to 25 for Israel
The Syrian community calculates alos hashachar as 1/10th of the
sunrise/sunset day that has always been present in the API method of:
getAlos72Zmanis()
For additional info see the documentation at
http://www.kosherjava.com/zmanim/docs/api/
The minhag for misheyakir (talis/tefilin) varies from one Syrian shul
to another and typically uses an offset of 6, 8 or 18 minutes after
alos, but this zman is intentionally left off Syrian calendars with
the intent that a Rabbi should be asked.
Please contact me offline for additional information if needed.
One item that I would like to stress is the need for the list of
zmanim to be configurable. Let the user select the default zmanim that
they want to see by default from a long list of optional zmanim,
ideally with an option to press a button to see "ALL" zmanim. This
will go a long way in resolving issues that came up earlier such as
those by people who wanted the 72 minute Rabainu Tam zman as opposed
to the 16.1 degree one etc...
