Call for Abstracts

The Faculty of Public Health, University of Ibadan invites the  submission of abstracts on research and programmes related to the theme of a National Conference in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the University of Ibadan titled “Public Health in Nigeria and the Challenges of Achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs): Science, Policy and Programmes”. This is in line with the recognition that the achievement of the MDGs in Nigeria requires major improvements in health systems, and that there exist serious public health challenges that are undermining the achievement of these goals.

Scientists in Nigeria and other developing countries are making attempts to undertake research in these key areas but often do not find the right forum to share and disseminate their findings and undertake reviews from their peers. Others undertaking field-based public health interventions do not have a forum in which to integrate their best practices into policy.

The purpose of the National Conference on Public Health and Health Reforms in Nigeria is to create a stimulus for policy- relevant science for achieving the health MDGs. This will provide a stimulus for consensus building around evidence-based policies and programs that reduce maternal, neonatal and child mortality and morbidity as well as reduce the disease burden in Nigeria. The conference will also use the event to form a network of Public Health Institutions in Nigeria for effective partnership to work together through developing a common public health agenda in Nigeria.

Conference sub-themes include:

  1. Working together :The challenges and options for partnership building for Public health
  2. National Responses to Reducing Infectious and non-communicable diseases: Policy/ Programmatic Options for Meeting MDG 6.
  3. Improved Nutrition Outcomes and the MDGs
  4. Health Promotion Awareness and MDGs
  5. Public Health Policy and Programmatic Options for meeting the MDGs
  6. Poverty Reduction and Women Empowerment for improved access to Quality  Reproductive Health Services

The conference will have both plenary and parallel sessions in order to meet the conference objectives of bringing together  Public Health   Stakeholders to focus on the way forward to fast track progress in reaching the  MDGs by 2015 in Nigeria. A poster session may also be organized.

Undergraduate and Graduate Competition

Dear Dr. Francis,

Whether the forum is active? Not heard since long. I was active till 2008-09, but since we were disconnected.

Let me know if any health issues are on board. I have recently worked as referee on research papers on Cancer and I authored a paper on administrative & judicial remedy to fight AIDS/HIV.

Regards,
Dr. Vrajlal Sapovadia
