Subject: [Supercourse] Library of Alexandria, with we scientists, solving grand challenges

"Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity". (WHO)

Library of Alexandria:
“Eureka, I have found it” (Archimedes). It is the Library of Alexandria!  It is time for a rebirth of the Library of Alexandria in the center of science. We in science world wide can make this happen

“Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum which to place it, and I shall move the world (Archimedes)
Pythagorean theory (Euclid), Archimedes’ Principle , pi (Archimedes)

2500 years ago was heady times for the Library of Alexandria with Euclid and Archimedes, as well as Ptolemy in Astronomy and Hypatia one of the first, female leading scientists. The Ancient library of Alexandria was the center of science and global health for the world.  This lasted for over 700 years.  Then it was destroyed, and science and global health died at the library as the library ceased to exist. In 2002 there was a renaissance with the opening of the new library of Alexandria, headed by Dr. Serageldin. Now in 2015 we scientists world wide must consider a rebirth of science and health at the library, making the library the beacon of science and health for Africa, Arab countries, and for the world.

“The Bibliotheca Alexandrina aims to be: A center of excellence in the production and dissemination of knowledge and to be a place of dialogue, learning and understanding between cultures and peoples.” (BA Mission statement)
We as global scientists can make this happen.  A friend of mine has called this a “Dream Project”, as within our lifetime we scientists  can make it happen.  With your help, we can produce a rebirth of science and global health at the library of Alexandria, ideally  to the year 2815 (700 years). We can have a major impact by working together.
Archimedes is an idol  “the shortest distance between two points is a straight line”.  This is so simple and obvious, but transformed science and math.  We scientists can also take a simple approach.  The most powerful forces in science are we, the scientists and the Internet. If we communicate across disciplines on the Internet exciting new advances will take place and new synergies will be form. The Library is the communication, it will be at the center of science for Arab and African science and the world.
To develop this we are establishing a global community of interest of scientists where we are identifying almost all the active scientists in the world and tying them together  on the Library of Alexandria Grid.  We currently have close to 300,000 faculty. Our goal is to build this grid to over 3 million in the next few years.  We will share the mission of the library of Alexandria and grow  international and interdisciplinary science to help all..

Library of Alexandria  in the past was a singular beacon of learning and knowledge in the ancient world”.  The new Library  of Alexandria of global health and science will be a singular beacon of learning and knowledge in the modern world.

For what use?

The Library of Alexandria global scientific grid will have over  390,000,000 IQ points. A first order of business when we are networked is to decide what grand challenges  scientists of the world want to tackle with the Library of Alexandria as suggested by Francois Sauer, M.D.  With the enormously high number of your IQ horsepower, and incredible creativity, we scientists working together with the Library of Alexandria can make the world  a much better place. We would very much like your thoughts about the issues. Please write to me at ronald...@gmail.com.

Please share this questions with your bright creative friends as well:
What are the problems that we 3 million scientists and the Library of Alexandria can attack together?

It is a New Horizon, if we can visit Pluto, we can establish the Library of Alexandria as a center of science with our global cooperation. With the library of Alexandria we can tackle the immense problems the world is facing with a Library of Alexandria, and our human super  computer (the intelligence of the network).
I would recommend that everyone visit the library of Alexandria. I have been to about 60 countries and 1000s of place.  This is my second favorite place, after my house in Wexford.  Hanan was wondering in coordinating a visit of  Dr. Sar Kazmi and 20 pakistan doctors. If you let us know with some time in advance we will arrange for a wonderful private tour of the Library of Alexandria.
Trevor Orchard.
I am very pleased to announce that a very good friend of ours Trevor Orchard, MD, M.Med.Sci. has been appointed to the rank of Distinguished Professor at the University of Pittsburgh. This is the highest award for a faculty member at the university of Pittsburgh.  Many of you know Trevor, you might want to congratulate him at T...@Pitt.edu
