Subject: Just Green Transition debate seminar April 8th invite

Dear Stine and Jacob,

Here is the invite for the next seminar. Please circulate to OMG and to your other networks. This one has more of a Global South focus, so I realise it may be of less interest to OMG, but perhaps there are some people in IOA who are interested.

Welcome to the 'What is a Just Green Transition?’  seminar series, where we debate the democratic and economic challenges in greening capitalism.

Does the green transition open pathways out of the periphery?

When: April 8, 14:00-15:30
Where: CBS Dalgas Have 15, Room C.0.33

Is the decarbonization of advanced economies happening at the cost of deeper social and environmental exploitation in global South countries? Or does the green transition offer new opportunities for global South countries to throw off their peripheral status in the global economy by being fast followers in commercialising new green technologies?

The panel will debate these two perspectives.

Participants:
  • Ilias Alami, University of Cambridge, UK
  • Aldo Madariega, Diego Portales University, Chile
  • Elvis Avenyo, University of Johannesburg, South Africa
  • Stine Haakonsson, Copenhagen Business School

Moderator: Lindsay Whitfield, Copenhagen Business School

The seminar series is organised by the Observatory for Just Green Transitions, a partnership between the Democracy Institute at Central European University and the Centre for Business and Development Studies at CBS, funded by the OSF Global Forum on Democracy and Development.
